will hillary be our first female president?

I haven't actually been following the primaries at all. And as a registered Independent I haven't attached myself to one candidate one way or the other (I really don't even want to think about it until November).

Except.... last night I happened to catch Hillary Clinton on TV after her win in New Hampshire and I suddenly had a sort of premonition  -- I saw Hillary in the White House -- not as First Lady, but as the American President.

It wasn't her words or attitude that moved me. I just suddenly sensed a significant shift in energy -- there seems to be something pushing her towards the White House. I'm not sure she'll win in 2008 -- but it seems almost inevitable -- Hillary WILL BE president someday.

And I suddenly felt a surge of energy myself because I realized that WE are going to help Hillary Clinton make history -- and that's going to change the energy of America in a positive way.

post-election hangover

My very liberal family is deeply disturbed by the election.  Every hour, I get another doomsday report in my email, something to the effect of, "Now that Bush has won the election nothing will stop him -- the polar ice caps will melt, the world will stop turning, armageddon is upon us."

O.K., once again, I close my eyes, breathe in deeply, and ask for perspective people.

For the record, I'm not a fan of George W., but here's my problem with our presidential election -- the Americans woke up today with a hell of a propaganda hang-over.

the war is over

No not the Iraqi war.  But hopefully the presidential war is at long last over.  "The man they call president" has retained his crown and title and so the next four years are his.  Goddess help us all.

What I detest about politics is this -- now that we spent a billion dollars demonizing George W. we expect all the "sore losers" to welcome him with open arms.  Now that we have completely divided and polarized our nation, we have to find a way to come back together and unite.

liberal weener or right-wing nutjob?

While I may be living in total denial, I do realize that today is Election Day.  And I'm most happy that tomorrow, no matter which candidate wins (liberal weener or right-wing nutjob) the political assault will be over. 

I'm going to wait to vote until after school because Jared asked if he could come with me.  That's fine.  I just found out from pollingsite.com that I merely have to walk across the street to the Lutheran Church to place my vote for the "man who least offends my sensibilities."

Seems that even though our governor has created quite a scandal with his recent "coming out", nobody thought to pull his commercials from TV.

So I had a little chuckle on Saturday night, when Jim McGreevey, surrounded by his wife and young daughter, exclaimed:

"COME OUT!  SEE WHAT'S NEW IN NJ!"

how many is too many?

An article in the NYTimes called When One is Enough, is getting strong reactions because it details a woman's reason for selectively aborting two out of three fetuses during her pregnancy.  The woman, Amy, also happens to be a leading young feminist voice who works with Ms. and other feminist organizations.

She is being labeled "evil" and "stupid" by some who feel her decision is purely selfish.  But no matter how I feel personally on this issue, I have to agree with Christine at ms. musings, who states: 

"Reproductive freedom is not simply about the right to choose a particular lifestyle. At its core, it’s about a women’s right to have control over her own body. That means -- with an eye always toward what’s best for women’s health -- abortion without apology or explanation and assistance with pregnancy when desired."

They say that moms aren't political.  So good, let the jerks in Washington underestimate us.  Let's use the stereotype against them.  Let's rise up in our little homes and ride our little minivans to the polls and tell Bush to go back to Texas (with full apologies to the good people of Texas).

Join the MOB -- or Mothers Opposing Bush!  They have a website and a blog.  And they bring hope to this country -- hope that this country will overcome the tyranny that is Bush.  Like the ants in A Bug's Life the tiny moms will rise up and defeat the mighty grasshopper by the sheer strength of our numbers and our determination of will.  We will not be bullied anymore by Hopper, er, I mean Bush.  He needs us -- we don't need him.  And he knows it!      

If you can't tell, I love A Bug's Life and its message about the tiny oppressed masses rising up against their bullying oppressor.  I have to thank Joanne, for sending me the MOB link.

with liberty and justice for all?

In an unprecedented move, the-man-who-calls-himself-president is hoping to legislate discrimination across our great country.  Enough is enough.  We cannot allow our Prez to use the Constitution to spread his hatred and to strip rights away from hard-working Americans who deserve to marry is they so choose.

Let your voice be heard NOW, before it is too late.  Go to Moveon.org and sign a petition to let your the-man-who-calls-himself-president, Senate, and the world know that we will not tolerate such an amendment  to our Constitution.

getting closer to some answers

According to a NYTimes' article today, 9/11 Report Is Said to Dismiss Iraq-Quaeda Alliance:

WASHINGTON, July 11 - The commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks is nearing completion of a final, probably unanimous report that will stand by the conclusions of the panel's staff and largely dismiss White House theories both about a close working relationship between Iraq and Al Qaeda and about possible Iraqi involvement in Sept. 11, commission officials said.

I missed the Bon Jovi-hosted fundraiser for Kerry. But at least I got to read about it here.  And so can you.
