I know a lot of people just don't think women are funny. They also don't think comedies should be aimed at women -- because only young men like to laugh at gross stuff. They think every comedy should basically feature Will Ferrell and his band of merry men, or Ben Stiller and his band of merry men, or be produced by Judd Apatow and star his band of merry men.
I actually think most of those films are funny too -- but there's always something lacking for me. I usually hate the way these films portray women (if they even bother to portray them at all). And I have grown tired of these male fantasies where beautiful, successful, smart women fall head-over-heels in love with the gross, flabby boy-man (with the IQ of a mailbox) just because he's funny.
Those "women aren't funny" people can (in the words of 30 Rock's Liz Lemon) "eat my poo," because Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are freaking hilarious. And I would probably go see any movie these two ladies make together. Baby Mama opened strong this weekend and topped the box office, drawing a predominantly female audience. Good for us, I say. It's about time we had something to laugh at besides flabby boy-men exposing themselves for laughs.
