On Saturday night, Rutgers lost to West Virginia in triple overtime -- losing a chance at a Big East title and the dreams of a trip to the Orange Bowl.
Now we head to Houston, for the first ever Texas Bowl. It's a disappointment. With a 10-2 record and a ranking of 16th, one would think our boys deserve better. At least I do.
Still, it's hard to complain. We had an amazing season. No losses at home. Only two losses total. Tons of records made. A NATIONAL RANKING. A trip to a bowl game for the second year in a row. People are talking about Rutgers Football. In fact, other schools WANT our coach. This is what it feels like to have a real football team.
I don't blame Schiano for keeping his options open. But I really hope he doesn't bail on us now that we've got some momentum going. I imagine he's talking to Miami for leverage with RU. But RU won't be able to come close to matching Miami's money. Let's hope Sciano really loves RU and isn't going anywhere. Let's hope Miami doesn't make him an offer he can't refuse.
As a lifelong Mountaineer, I need to say you guys deserved to win that game. It was awfully nice of our defense to show up at the very last possible moment, but your boys and their story book season were just an awesome, awesome thing. For college football. For the Big East. For fans of the game everywhere.
I'll be rooting for RU come their bowl day. Congratulations on a fabulous season.
