After posting last week a rather bitchy rant about my kids (that I later deleted out of fear my daughter might read my blog) I feel as if I've somehow lost my blogging mojo.
I can't really speak frankly or freely here, not because I have any sense of self-censorship, but because I have no intention of hurting people close to me. I'm just not one of those bloggers who can dish the dirt about everyone. Sure, I have no problem exposing myself. But I feel weird about possibly saying something here that could have detrimental effects on my children.
Besides I'm in a blogging funk. Lately I haven't felt especially witty. I haven't felt the need to share my opinions instantaneously with the internet. I haven't been especially moved by anything worth commenting on (not even Britney's Spears confirmed 2nd pregnancy or how ridiculously loaded Paula Abdul has been on AI).
Mostly though, I've just been busy as hell. I'm working on about 4 film/TV projects:
PROJECT 1: The Bluebelles (documentary) -- We meet every Tuesday to edit this film about an eclectic group of senior women who have been friends for 15 years since meeting at a YMCA swim class. We sent a letter to Oprah's producers and they want to see some footage from our film for a segment on "female friendships" so we're under the gun to piece something together quickly.
PROJECT 2: AMES HARBOR (TV SERIES) -- Every Thursday we meet to develop an original pilot (working title: Ames Harbor) set in a fictional bayshore town (based on Atlantic Highlands, NJ). It's sort of a Northern Exposure meets Gilmore Girls, a quirky ensemble piece about small towns and the secrets they harbor. I'm going to be writing the pilot once we flesh out all the characters/key plot developments.
PROJECT 3. RELATIVE DISTANCE -- A feature-length screenplay about a woman who embarks on a cross-country roadtrip with her estranged father in order to find the sister she never met. I'm doing a rewrite now, based on some excellent coverage notes we received. But it's going slow, because I need blocks of time to write, and I'm just not getting that right now because of all the doctor/dentist/chiropractic appointments I have.
PROJECT 4: THE GROTTO -- Another feature-length screenplay that I will be writing. This one is about a Priest who spent his life building a shrine to the Virgin Mary. As a lapsed Catholic, this should be an interesting project for me. We are visiting West Bend, Iowa, this month to see The Grotto live and to conduct interviews as research for the script.
Meanwhile, we're still waiting to hear from Oxygen and Lifetime about out other TV series, BREEDING GROUND, and I'm trying to finish up a couple of short films I worked on two years ago, so that I can put together a reel. And my partners have half a dozen other story ideas, which I'd be interested in writing.
And I'm reading A LOT. People keep sending me books, which I love. Especially, because I'm ultimately on the lookout for books from small publishers that our production company can option and produce. I'd also love to develop a FAMILY FRIENDLY FILM, just haven't found the right story yet.
Girl, everyone loses their mojo sometimes. There's nothing wrong with having little to say now and then. If you wait, your inner blogger will reasssert!
