How many of us claim we want to write novels -- SOMEDAY? If we're blogging, probably about 99 percent of us have this dream (or fantasy).
If you need a kick in the ass, you may want to participate in the annual NaNoWriMo Competition. All you have to do is commit to writing 50,000 words of a novel during the month of November and YOU'VE WON. Of course, this is easier said than done. NaNoWriMo has become really popular, but only a small percentage of participants actually meet the 50,000 goal. Because let's face it, a month is not a long time, and writing is really hard.
That's okay, though. Even if you only write 3000 words, it's 3000 more than you would have written if you hadn't tried. And that's the point of NaNoWriMo -- to stop the procrastinating and get started.
I'd like to participate, but I'm already burning both ends of the candle trying to finish a feature-length screenplay and I'm not quite ready to attack my novel yet. It's just an idea right now anyway. I do I think that by next November I may be ready to sitdown and write it. So at least that gives me a 12 month goal -- to get my other shit in order so that next November I can participate in NaNoWriMo.
