What started out as a post became a rant:

Age Compression, the Britney Effect, and Protecting Girls.

When I was a kid, my mother chided me for dressing too conservatively. But yeah, I liked Madonna, etc. too. I won't let my girls dress suggestively. My father works to investigate child sexual abuse cases and the creeps he encounters (and wants to strangle) are the ones who say the little girls were asking for it. I tell my girls they are beautiful and smart all of the time, and I hope that when they are old enough to make clothing choices, they choose correctly. And for now, I choose. They can't even have BRATZ dolls or watch certain shows. It is a parent's responsibility to help guide these choices.
