"I am challenged to my core by motherhood. I am challenged by the logistics, by the fact that you're always tired and usually a step behind. I took my daughter to school today and forgot her lunch, and, you know, I am spiritually and psychologically challenged all the time. What do they need now? Do I set a boundary here? Is it a moment for leniency and understanding? Where do my needs fit into this picture -- do they fit in this picture? Just when you think, I've got this down, they grow a little and things change."

What always intrigues me about these kinds of interviews with women's magazines is how they work overtime to treat their subject like a normal person and not a celebrity. For example, Felicity Huffman has two small children, so in some ways she's like Lynette--but she also employs 2 nannies.

I have always liked her, more based on the character she played on Sports Night than any real knowledge of her. But I guess she brings to her roles the intelligence and thoughtfulness that come through in that interview.
But as Jeff points out, it is interesting that even with two nannies, she has trouble coping! Does that make her less capable than the rest of us -- or does it mean that motherhood is so daunting that we too would still be overwhelmed with all that help?
