PitchXchange is over and I have to say that it was quite an experience. It was exhausting and exciting. Bob Kosberg was an excellent speaker, keeping the room mesmerized for hours as he recounted his tales of Hollywood and his "secrets to success."
The actual process of "Pitching" to development execs and agencies and others was really more enjoyable than I thought it would be. There was a great energy in the air as East-coast writers converged to "pitch their ideas". And the execs were polite and in some cases even helpful, giving suggestions on ways to improve your story. They also made you feel like a million bucks, complimenting your story, even if they couldn't use it (and not letting on if they heard the story a million times already).
Anyway, it was nice to have the attention of people in the industry for once-- even if it was for only 5 minutes at a time (at $30 a pop). Bob Kosberg gave me a lot to think about.
I DO need to be out there sharing my ideas and pitches with the right people -- and not just my husband. I DO need to pick up the phone when I have an idea and call a company that I think could use it. I DO need to start thinking in commercial-terms instead of thinking that I'm going to reinvent the wheel.
After all, I love writing (and creating) and I kinda liked the pitching/schmoozing too. So what the heck is stopping me?
Hopefully nothing.
This sounds fascinating - I enjoy hearing about your adventures.

I'm glad you had a nice time. Anything that motivates you to get up off your duff and throw yourself out there is a good thing. I need to do that myself. It's so scary.
