I write. A lot.
I blog, tweet, ramble on facebook, and comment frequently on the stuff I read online. I've written dozens of screenplays and teleplays and recently completed my first Young Adult novel. Sometimes I write poetry or songs as a writing exercise to get the brain working. I am always in the middle of at least one writing project (usually several) and big or small, I love it all.
Like most writers, I have been writing for as long as I can remember. It is more than a career or profession or job -- it is a CALLING. I couldn't stop writing any more than I could stop sleeping or eating or breathing. It is part and parcel of who I am. Still, writing is not an easy endeavor or something one does on a whim, and yet often it is the easiest "hardest" thing I can imagine doing.
All writers know this truth - when we write time stands still...and yet at the same time it flies by. It is beyond magical. It is fantastical. And we are honored and privileged to be able to do this work.
Writing, mothering, and creating are all my passions. These things
feed my soul, and thus don't feel like work at all to me, even thought
they are all labor intensive. And even when I put in more than I get
out of these things, I always find personal satisfaction and
fulfillment. Ultimately these are labors of love, and their true value
cannot be quantified.
Luckily, I have many other passions too. I
love my family, my friends, my dogs, my books, films, TV, theater,
music, photography, the beach, the mountains, nature, animals,
scientific discovery, spirituality, holistic healing, volunteerism,
travel, staying home, staying fit (mentally, physically, emotionally,
and spiritually), a hot cup of tea, a glass of wine, chocolate-covered
anything, hiking in the woods, guided meditation, soaking in a very hot
tub, deep tissue massages, singing in the rain, innovation of any kind,
and unique and interesting people who move to the beat of a different
drummer.
There is a lot I want to accomplish in life -- I have
big dreams and many, many goals. There is a ton more I want to compose
-- scripts, novels, songs, essays, plays, and tweets and if I can find
the time, hopefully I will do it all. I am blessed to wake up every day
feeling inspired and creative in some way. Overall, I am simply a
work-in-progress...as we are all, until our journeys are complete. And
my journey is just beginning.
