Watch it or Turn it Off

I have to remember to bring my earbuds with me when I go out. I'm sitting at the car place waiting for an oil change and the TV is blasting. My least favorite stuff too -- game shows and pharmaceutical commercials.

It's just noise. Irritating noise. Nobody's watching it. Everyone is either on their smartphones or reading the newspaper. But still we need to have this irritating background noise?

Doesn't help that I have a dull headache that I'm hoping won't become a full-blown migraine as that would make it the fourth day in a row with a migraine.

 

Weltschmerz

I woke up today trying to come up with a word to describe my state of mind. Then I came upon this article, How to Tell if it's Ennui or Weltschmerz. I believe Weltschmerz is the winner...

Weltschmerz describes "a world weariness felt from a perceived mismatch between the ideal image of how the world should be with how it really is."

As someone who is very sensitive and empathetic, there is much reason to feel "world pain" as I look around at the current world we inhabit. But more than that, as someone suffering from chronic Lyme (now going on 2.5 years with little to zero relief), I feel a weariness within my own personal world because of the unfortunate disconnect between the life I want, and the reality of living with chronic pain.

 

Steinem Insults Feminists with Remarks

Shame on Gloria Steinem for making such a grossly sexist remark to Bill Maher, asserting that young women are only supporting Bernie Sanders because they want to "meet boys" and boys support Bernie.

Really? I would expect Trump to say something stupid and crass like this, but not the feminist icon who has allegedly been fighting for equal rights for the last five decades. Nothing sells feminism like a feminist elder telling the youngsters that they are all stupid bubbleheads who can't think for themselves.
