Yesterday, I was ecstatic to get my computer back and learn that my hard drive was intact, even though most of the other parts were damaged from the tea I spilled on it and had to be replaced entirely. However, as I double-checked, and then triple-checked my files I could not find the very detailed outline/breakdown for my novel that I had completed in April. Believe me, I looked for it in just about every folder and ran search after search.
Finally, I went to bed thinking "Oh well, I guess I should be happy I got 99% of my stuff back. I'll just have to redo the outline/breakdown."
That's when I laid down, shut my eyes, and heard my subconscious say: "It's not gone. Check the trash."
First thing this morning I did indeed check the trash on my computer and found the lost file. Not sure why it was deleted in the first place but I'm just glad I empty my computer trash as about as often as I back up my hard drive (of course NOW, I'm going to back it up regularly).
Another disaster averted.
Sometimes we are so busy multitasking or trying to solve problems or expecting the worst that we let the noise in our heads drown out commonsense. That's why I love meditation. It has taught me to quiet the noise and listen to my subconscious. My subconscious is calm, unhurried, and doesn't immediately fall apart in crisis. Besides, my subconscious seems to keep track of my comings and goings better than my conscious mind ever could.
Can't tell you how many times I shut my eyes and asked my subconscious to direct me to the exact box where I had packed something after we moved. We had boxes everywhere for months, and yet somehow, a part deep inside of me, knew the answer. I just had to silence the cluttered part of my mind and listen.
