A writer who isn't writing is kind of like a kite without wind. Sorta lifeless and pathetic. A kite is meant to fly. And a writer is meant to write. And a writer who IS writing kinda feels like a kite that's flying. I know, because I've flown a lot this past year.
But not lately. Frankly, I've barely written anything these past three months. I've been distracted and occupied with other things, mainly moving, recurring health issues, and other pressing obligations.
That's all about to change. It's November, which means it's NaNoWriMo -- or National Novel Writing Month and I have hearby committed to commence writing my 2nd Novel as of today.
And so it begins...
Which is why now, more than ever, I need to renew my commitment to writing. It's time to get serious. And time to write.
No matter what else is going on in my life I need to commit to getting 12,500 words done a week (I think, but let's be honest, I'm a writer not a mathematician) in order to reach my 50,000-word goal. I'm on my way towards that goal. It may only be a tiny bit done, but roads are paved one brick at a time (or at least the Yellow Brick Road was).
With this goal in mind I believe I can become more disciplined about my writing again, and push myself to finish a couple more pages each day before I resign (or give up) and turn on the tube or zone out online. It may not be humanly possible for me to reach the 50,000 word goal, but I have no doubt in my mind that by the end of November I'll have achieved a lot more writing than I would have had I not become involved with NaNoWriMo.
For those of you interested, I'm writing a sci-fi novel called THE TRAPPIST about a time-traveling bio-geneticist who once lived as a trappist monk. It was inspired by my father, who was a monk before becoming an aerospace engineer and was also interested in Edgar Cayce and metaphysics. As far a I know he never traveled through time, but hey you never know. Besides, Lincoln never slayed Zombies, but we can do whatever we want in fiction, right?

And so, that's all I have to say for now. Besides I have pages to write before I rest and miles to go before I sleep.
