feeling groovy

Each summer I pick a theme song.  Last year's theme song was "Soak Up the Sun" by Sheryl Crow.

This year's theme song is an oldie, but a goody -- Simon and Garfunkel's "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feeling Groovy)."  I used to play this song on guitar in fourth grade in the guitar class taught by Sister Gertrude in the parochial school I attended.

I'm hoping to use this song as a reminder to myself, that I've made a pledge to "slow down" and really enjoy each and every moment during this summer, and hopefully beyond.

The 59th Street Bridge Song  (Feeling Groovy) Lyrics

Slow down, you move too fast.
You got to make the morning last.
Just kicking down the cobble stones.
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy.

Hello lamppost,
What cha knowing?
I've come to watch your flowers growing.
Ain't cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in' doo-doo,
Feelin' groovy.

Got no deeds to do,
No promises to keep.
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep.
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me.
Life, I love you,
All is groovy.

As the song goes..."where have all the good times gone". Hippies these days are too strung out. They are too health conscious and read too much gobbeldygook. I feel sad at the whole new rich so called "cyber hippies". What ever happened to protesting on the grass. Now It's...the secret...this...and ....what the bleep...that...I thing the indoor couch potato hippy has taken over. I miss the flowers in the hair.
