liberal weener or right-wing nutjob?
While I may be living in total denial, I do realize that today is Election Day. And I'm most happy that tomorrow, no matter which candidate wins (liberal weener or right-wing nutjob) the political assault will be over.
I'm going to wait to vote until after school because Jared asked if he could come with me. That's fine. I just found out from pollingsite.com that I merely have to walk across the street to the Lutheran Church to place my vote for the "man who least offends my sensibilities."
I'm so disconnected from this presidential campaign. I am so tired of the bullying, lying, harrassment (and that's just from my mom!). Why do people invest so much of themselves into something they truly have no control over? You can't bully people into voting for the guy you like. And you have to gain a little perspective and not allow yourself to be used and manipulated by the political machines.
If I hear one more time how "this is the MOST IMPORTANT election of my lifetime" I think I will shut-down completely. Perspective People!! No matter which guy wins, it is only 4 measly years, and at the snail's pace our government works, there's only so much damage a liberal weener or a right-wing nutjob can do. And the president is only one man. No matter how much we want to put total blame on the Texas dumbass for the war, we must remember that he had the full support of our Congress and from most of our country as well.
Also, regarding the stem-cell and pro-choice issues -- these are life and death issues at risk. But again, the next four years are going to be a total mess. After the election, these issues will most likely fade into the background as our government tries to figure out how the hell to get out of Iraq and how the hell do deal with a trillion $ deficit.
Either way, I'm taking a Zen approach to the election. It is not the most important election of my lifetime, because I CHOOSE not to give it that power over me. Whatever the results, the presidential term, like all things in life is transitory. And no matter how bad it gets, I think positively and remind myself that if not now, then at least four years from now, George W. will be out of the White House for good.
Now, lighten up people. And have a laugh. Go to Jib Jab, re-watch their hilarious take on the candidates, and remind yourself that "life doesn't have to be so damn serious."
perhaps it's just another four years but the Domestic Security Enhancement Act would have seated Bush as dictator had it passed, and that is too close for me. We HAVE to have a change in the White House, or we may never get to.

It's four years for a president but a lifetime for the Supreme Court justices they appoint.

I just surfed in through BE and stayed MORE than the required 30, and boy, am I glad you said something. I didn't say it, couldn't even think of how to say it, but am glad that somebody finally did! :)
